Sillanpaa Family Farm LLC
We are longtime farmers who's first sheep came to the farm in 2019! Since that fateful year the wooly fiber bug has taken hold :) We are so pleased to offer our very own Dorset Horn fiber in many forms. From hand spun & natural dyed yarns, to roving from your favorite sheep, to raw wool still warm, we can set you up! The Dorset Horn now a rare breed but it used to cover the fields and hillsides of New England. Known for their elastic, highly durable, but still soft fiber, we aim to knit and weave garments that will last long past our lifetime.
We are members of The Livestock Conservancy, a fiber provider for their Shave 'em 2 Save 'em program, the Continental Dorset Club, and the newly reinvigorated Maine Sheep Breeders Association. You can also find us on the Real Maine Fibershed Tour every Fall. We utilize our wonderful Maine Fiber Mills for all our wool processing, and grow lots of our own dye plants. Someday we hope to host workshops and help spread the joy of local, sustainable food and fiber :)
