Maine Fibershed Ravelry Group

Ravelry is an inclusive, friendly website for knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers, and dyers. Made up of millions of yarn lovers from all over the world, Ravelry provides a personal notebook for fiber artists to keep track of their projects, yarns & fibers, tools, and includes a pattern library, a rich database of patterns and yarns, and a community with thousands of forums and groups to connect with other Ravelers over any interest you could think of.

Given the depth of breadth of Ravelry, and the love of Maine yarn worldwide, Maine Fibershed launched a Ravelry Group in 2024. It is for any of the millions of artisans worldwide who have created with Maine-grown, naturally-processed yarn.

This program provides three crucial touchpoints:

    • Maine farmers yarn is shown made into a variety of projects that range from stuffed toys to jackets.
    • Local Yarn Stores where a project’s Maine yarn was purchased.
    • Maine-based designers whose patterns were used for a project.

In just a year, we have found that cross-posted projects have opened doors and eyes for other opportunities. Maine Fibershed has been invited to create Fiber Activist groups at community centers, speak to artisan groups, and it also led to the Lighthouse Knitting Guild of Maine to find us. It also has created inquiries from yarn stores outside of Maine who wish to carry our farmers’ fibers.

This endeavor definitely fits into Maine Fibershed’s ethos of “Test Drive All Dreams.” The more our Ravelry community grows, and our local yarn stores urge cross-posting, the more it uplifts our entire textile community.

So, if you knit, crochet, spin or weave with Maine-grown fiber, join our Ravelry Group and cross-post your finished objects to our page! We look forward to welcoming you into the circle.
